This DIY rose water toner is so easy to make and it is super beneficial to the skin! You can use it to tone after cleansing or to set makeup. It is also perfect to freshen up during the day. All it takes if a few spritzes.
Making the toner takes only three effective, clean, good-for-you ingredients, and voila! You just saved yourself some money and gave your thirsty skin a healthy gulp of clean moisture. It is very important that the Rose Hydrosol, Witch Hazel, Aloe Vera juice, and the Essential Oils come from reputable sources. A DIY toner is only as good as what goes into that bottle. What is a hydrosol?
Rosewater – or rose hydrosol – is very soothing to the skin, moisturizing, anti-microbial, and it also smells like a rose garden. Considered beauty’s magic potion, rosewater in skin products dates back to early Egypt and queen Cleopatra.
Per the company I trust to deliver the best ingredients, Mountain Rose Herbs, hydrosols are pretty amazing.
“Hydrosols, also known as “flower waters,” are produced by distilling fresh leaves, fruits, flowers, and other plant materials. With similar properties to essential oils, these aromatic waters are much less concentrated. Their aromas are often soft and subtle when compared to their essential oil counterpart.”Mountain Rose Herbs
Since it is both anti-aging and antibacterial, rose hydrosol helps maintain your skin’s PH as well as moisturize. Of course, if you don’t like rose aroma, replace it with lavender, chamomille, or melissa. The possibilities are truly endless.
Other Powerful Ingredients in the DIY Rose Water Toner
Witch Hazel comes from the distillation of twigs and the bark of the Witch Hazel tree, and it has wonderful astringent and skin tone balancing benefits. The little bit of alcohol in the toner helps disperse the optional essential oils properly. This ensures proper dilution and safety to put on facial skin.
Organic Aloe Vera juice (I get mine from my garden or from Mountain Rose Herbs), an anti-inflammatory that soothes and naturally moisturizes and tea tree essential oil, nature’s most powerful antimicrobial.
The toner already smells divinely with just these three ingredients. For still more aroma and additional benefits from therapeutic grade essential oils, try to add a few drops of rose or geranium. True Rose Essential Oil is very expensive. I opt for Rose Absolute or Geranium Essential Oil instead.
- 1 oz organic Rose Hydrosol
- 1/2 oz organic Witch Hazel
- 1/2 oz organic Aloe Vera
- Optional: 8-10 drops of Rose or Geranium essential oil
Mix everything into a 2 oz glass spray bottle. Spray onto face after cleansing or throughout the day for extra hydration and ot set make-up in place.
This is so simple and truly life changing. Enjoy!
